Sharks Set to Host Saint Leo on Senior Day Saturday

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern women's basketball team will compete in its final home game of the 2016-17 regular season on Saturday afternoon, hosting Saint Leo at 2:00 p.m.

The Sharks (15-10, 10-6 SSC) will look to grab another South Region win on Saturday, in hopes to boost their regional ranking. Sitting at No. 9 in the South Region currently, the Sharks need to advance just one spot to earn a bid to the NCAA National Tournament.

Earlier this week on Wednesday, NSU earned a 56-51 over SSC provisional member Embry-Riddle with a final minute rally in Daytona Beach. Amanda Tivenius led the scoring for NSU, tallying 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field, while being just a rebound away from a double-double performance. Megan Piggott was the next highest scorer with 14 points, hitting on 3-of-5 from deep and 5-of-6 from the charity stripe. Maria Bardeeva was the last Shark in double-digits, record 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field. Christen Prasse tallied a team-high three assists and had three steals.

Saint Leo will enter Saturday's game with an overall record of 9-14 and is currently 4-11 against conference opponents, with all four conference wins coming from their last four games against Barry, Lynn, Florida Tech and PBA. In their most recent outing against PBA, the Lions trounced the Sailfish, 80-61.

The Sharks and the Lions met for the first time in January, and the Sharks handed the host team a 78-66 loss. For the Sharks, Piggott was the leading scorer, tallying a whopping 26 points, connecting on 13-of-15 free throws and also added three blocks and three steals.

For SLU, Ragen Dotson led the team with 17 points and added a career-high six steals. Chelsy Springs joined her in double-digit scoring with 12 points and a team-high six rebounds.

With three players in double-digit points per game averages, Saint Leo is led by Springs who contributes 15.7 points a game. The next highest scorer is Mary Redmond with 13.8 points, followed closely by Dotson who averages 12.5 points a game.

Before the game, the women's basketball team and the entire NSU athletic department will honor its three seniors, Katie Barnard, Samantha Logan and Octavia Wilson for their hard work and contribution during their Shark careers.
