INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – In search of its fifth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament, the Nova Southeastern women's soccer team still has some work to do after landing at No. 8 in the first release of the official NCAA South Region rankings. The committee only sends the Top-6 teams to the postseason, but lucky for the Sharks - Sunshine State Conference Tournament play aside - plenty of opportunities await with Embry-Riddle and Rollins still on the schedule down the stretch of the regular season.
As the field stands, Rollins would earn the region's top seed, followed by No. 2 Lee, No. 3 Mississippi College, No. 4 West Alabama, No. 5 West Florida, and finally No. 6 Montevallo. Embry-Riddle checks into the initial poll at No. 7. Both tournament champions from the SSC and Gulf South Conference will receive automatic berths, while four more at-large bids will be determined in the final regional rankings.
Entering the week, NSU currently sits in fourth in the SSC race. However, the Sharks still control their own destiny, with a chance to be crowned SSC regular season champions with wins in each of their final three matches.
NSU will head to Daytona Beach, Fla. to take on Embry-Riddle this Saturday at 6 p.m. For complete coverage of the action, visit the schedule page on NSUSharks.com or follow the Sharks on Twitter @NSU_WSoccer.
