DeLAND, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern women's tennis squad wrapped competition at the Stetson Invitational on Sunday, closing out an extremely successful weekend on five more singles wins and two doubles victories in 10 cross-divisional opportunities against Southeast Missouri.
Doubles Play
The No. 1 doubles tandem of senior
Sarah Wardenburg (Waikato, New Zealand) and sophomore
Natalie Espinal (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) dominated against the Redhawks' Romana Tarajova and Ksenyia Zonova, 6-1. Third flight pair of sophomore
Celia Montero Estevan (Santiago de Compostella, Spain) and sophomore
Diane Follin-Arbelet (Lyon, France) came out with the 7-6 (2) victory over Manuela Barriga and Sneha Sinha.
In total over the weekend, the Sharks picked up seven doubles wins.
Singles Play
The Sharks were strong in the top flights against SEMO, with Espinal topping Zonva again, 7-5, 6-0 at No. 1, while
Daniela Obando (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) went 6-1, 2-6, 15-11 to best Teona Velkoska in the second flight. At No. 4, Follin-Arbelet earned the 6-4, 5-7, 10-2 victory over Sinha. Sophomore
Caitlyn Khan (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) saved three match points to stay in the fight and defeat Maja Lundell 4-6, 7-6 (1), 10-4 in the sixth flight. In seventh flight, junior
Ivana Djordjevic claimed a 6-1 victory over Grace Powderly.
Closing out singles play, the Sharks were victorious in two Division I matches against Stetson and Southeast Missouri, also topping Florida Southern in DII action – garnering 12 singles wins.
