MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern tennis team opened up its final fall tournament on Friday with the first day of action at the 2019 Buccaneer Invitational. The Sharks earned victory in 9-of-12 matches played at the Buccaneer Tennis Center against Keiser, ASA College, Flagler and host Barry.
Doubles Play
In doubles Flight A, the doubles tandem of senior
Sarah Wardenburg (Waikato, New Zealand) and sophomore
Natalie Espinal (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) opened up with a 6-3 win over Keiser's Anais Ruyssen and SarahSchaerer, while sophomores
Celia Montero Estevan (Santiago de Compostella, Spain) and
Diane Follin-Arbelet (Lyon, France) earned a 6-1 Flight B win over ASA's Gwendolen Sior and Flavia Rodas.
Singles Play
In singles Flight A, Espinal delivered a 6-2, 6-4 defeat of Keiser's Anais Gabriel, while senior
Daniela Obando (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) also chalked up a 6-0, 6-3 win over ASA's Soomin Kim. In Flight B, Montero Estevan was victorious over ASA's Zulay Catasñeda, 6-4, 6-4. In Flight C, Wardenburg battled past a close opening set to top Keiser's Joyce Nouws, 7-5, 6-1, while sophomore
Caitlyn Khan went 6-1, 6-4 past Flagler's Alessandra Traub. In Flight D, senior
Isabella Lowrey (Miami, Fla.) topped Keiser's Ana Gomez, 6-4, 6-2, while junior
Ivana Djordjevic was up 5-2 on ASA's Gwendolen Sior before her retirement.
In total on the day, the Sharks gathered a 7-1 singles record, also going 2-2 in doubles play.
