MELBOURNE, Fla. – On the heels of his first career victory, Nova Southeastern's Javier Calles has been selected as the Sunshine State Conference Men's Golfer of the Week.
Calles' impressive performance allowed NSU to overcome a six-shot deficit entering the final round en route to winning the Miami Intercollegiate last Tuesday. The 2021 SSC Freshman of the Year lit up the front nine in the final round with a bogey-free, 4-under 31 before tallying eight pars and a bogey on the back to lock up the individual title at 5-under for the tournament, two strokes ahead of teammate Jonny Cachon. Calles shot a combined 7-under over the final 36 holes of play.
The victory not only marked the first of Calles' career, but was also the first team win for the Sharks since October of 2018.
