BOULDER CITY, Nev. – After winning its first South/Southeast Regional Championship since 2015, the Nova Southeastern Men's Golf team sets its sights on another National Championship.
Men's Golf has a history of winning and that's no exception in recent history under head coach
Joey Marino. The Sharks, winners of the 2023 NCAA National Championship, return to the final site of competition and look to clinch another national title after upsetting the field to win the regional championship.
Action is set to begin from Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev. on Monday, May 18 with 20 teams and eight individuals fighting for both individual and team national championships. The tournament is expected to last until Friday, May 22 with the first three days of competition being stroke play.
However, the format changes a bit at the National Tournament. In addition to stroke play, which is what the team has been playing all season, the NCAA has implemented match play for the finals.
After three rounds of competition conclude on Wednesday afternoon, the top individual is declared the individual national champion, and the top eight team scores are seeded and placed into a quarter-final bracket. Coaches then submit a lineup card with five golfers ranked one through five. The opponent does the same and each golfer listed on the lineup card goes 18 holes, head-to-head with their counterpart from the opposing team.
The school that had three or more of its golfers outperform their counterparts, wins the match and advances in the bracket until a team national champion is crowned.
Quarterfinal and semifinal match play takes place on Thursday, May 21 in the morning and afternoon, respectively.
The National Championship match will occur on Friday, May 22 in the morning.
