LARGO, Fla. – Led by the play of freshman 
Javier Calles, the Nova Southeastern men's golf team opened with identical rounds of (+8) 296 Monday to grab a hold of fifth place following two rounds of action at the Sunshine State Conference Championship in Largo, Fla. The Sharks sit in contention, nine back of current leader Lynn, while Calles individually owns a share of fifth at one-over par.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
	- NSU closed round one in third on the leaderboard. Despite a second straight round of 296 in the afternoon, however, the Sharks dipped in the standings as the second round played a full 1.5 shots easier than the first.
 
	- At a combined seven-over par, Lynn jumped out to a five-shot advantage over both Tampa and Barry, who wrapped up the day at 12 over.
 
	- Saint Leo (+14) finds itself currently fourth, just two strokes in front of NSU.
 
	- Making his SSC Championship debut, Calles collected four birdies apiece in his two rounds Monday, posting efforts of (E) 72 and (+1) 73 to work his way into a four-way tie for fifth.
 
	- Emanuel Olofsson registered a pedestrian three birdies over the course of both rounds, yet limited his mistakes, totaling 26 pars en route to rounds of (+3) 75 and (+1) 73. The sophomore currently sits tied for 15th overall.
 
	- A one-under par performance on the back nine led Tomas Millet to a round of (+2) 74 early Monday before adding a 75 to conclude the day tied for 19th at five-over par.
 
	- Victor Jimenez racked up six consecutive pars down the stretch to post a (+3) 75 in round one. He later finished with four pars and a birdie at the end of round two, carding a (+4) 76. At seven-over par overall, the senior currently owns a share of 23rd.
 
	- One back of Jimenez, freshman Joseba Torres has positioned himself into a tie for 25th at eight over-par.
 
STATS OF THE DAY:
	- The Sharks topped the field Monday in pars with a combined total of 110.
 
	- NSU's Par-3 scoring average of 3.20 ranked first, while its Par-4 average of 4.19 ranked second.
 
BEYOND THE SCORECARD:
	- Tampa's Aadam Syed (-4) currently holds a two-shot lead over both Jorge Villar and Agustin Errazuriz of Lynn.
 
	- NSU has won a total of five SSC titles – the last coming in 2012.
 
	- The 2021 SSC Championship marks the first time the event has been played at Bayou Club.
