LAKELAND, Fla. - The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) has announced the first South Region Player and Pitcher of the Week for the 2025 season, Justin Wachs, a senior outfielder, earned Player of the Week honors after leading the 22nd ranked Sharks to a 3-1 opening weekend, which featured a walk-off win over No. 3 Catawba.  

Wachs opened the season continuing the stellar play from 2024, as over the four games he went 7-for-14, with four extra base hits, 12 runs batted in, and six runs scored. Wachs began the campaign in grand fashion, hitting a grand slam – NSU's first hit of the season – in a 7-6 walk-off victory over Catawba. In a pair of games against Delta State, Wachs totaled eight runs batted in, while going 5-for-6 at the plate. The senior recorded a double, triple and home run in the double header. Through four games, Wachs carries a 0.500 batting average, a 0.611 on-base percentage, and a 1.143 slugging percentage, totaling 16 bases in 18 plate appearances, while also adding a pair of walks, two hit-by-pitches and a stolen base.  

On the defensive side, Wachs recorded seven putouts and added an assist in eight chances.
