FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Oct. 8, 2008) - The Nova Southeastern University  women's soccer team was beaten 1-0 by Florida Tech in a Sunshine State  Conference clash at the NSU Soccer Complex on Wednesday evening.  The  loss drops the Sharks record to 6-2-3 (0-2-2 SSC) while Florida Tech  improves to 10-4-0 (2-3-0 SSC).
 The first half was a defensive battle, as both team struggled to get  anything going offensively.  For the initial 45 minutes, Florida Tech  had only six shots while NSU was held to one.  Sharks' goalkeeper Megan  Kim (Jr., Valrico, Fla.) came up big in the first half, saving three  balls, including a breakaway attempt by the Panthers just before the end  of the half.    
 Things opened up in the second half, as both teams were able to muster  scoring opportunities.  FIT was able to tally 11 shot attempts while NSU  had six.  The Panthers were able to break the clean sheet in the 75th  minute, when DeeDee Newland lofted a ball over Kim just inside the box  to record the only goal of the match.  Florida Tech goalie Melissa Pyles  denied the Sharks' valiant attempt to knot the match for the remaining  15 minutes.    
 Senior Shurell Burton (Palm Bay, Fla.) and sophomore Alexis Hernandez  (Weston, Fla.) led the Sharks with two shots apiece.  Burton had one  shot on goal.  Kim had five saves in the match for NSU.    
 Megan Stone had a team high seven shots for Florida Tech.  Goalie  Melissa Pyles had one save in the shutout for the Panthers.    
 Nova Southeastern will travel to Winter Park, Fla. to play Rollins  College at 6 pm on Tuesday, October 14th.
