Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (Sept. 27, 2009) - The Nova Southeastern women's soccer team took their third straight loss by falling to the No. 2 West Florida Argonauts, 3-1 Sunday afternoon at the NSU Soccer Complex. The Sharks, 1-2 in the Sunshine State Conference, now stand at an even 4-4 this season.
"West Florida is a very good team, they have a chance to win it all," said Coach Mike Goodrich. "They looked frightening in the first 15 minutes, but our girls played great the final 70 minutes. We can't give up three goals and expect to win though."
The first 15 minutes were rough for the Sharks as the Argonauts (8-0-0) lit up the scoreboard with three goals. Nothing went the Sharks way in the opening half as the team failed to take a single shot. The Argonauts took 12 shots in the first half, seven of which were on target.
The Sharks bounced back in the second half and outscored their opponent, 1-0. Sarah Wareham (So., Davie, Fla.) put the Sharks on the board in the 83rd minute with her first career goal. Elizabeth Brauher (Sr., Hilo, Hawaii) earned the assist by passing to Wareham, who caught the goalkeeper sleeping and rocketed the ball into the open net.
The Shark defense also looked stellar in the second half, as they held West Florida to only six shots. Sarah Glass (Jr., Melbourne, Fla.) stood out on defense by making seven saves, her second highest total this season.
The Nova Southeastern women's soccer team will retake the field this Friday, Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. when they take on the Tampa Spartans at the NSU Soccer Complex.
