Rowing Captures SSC Boat of the Week Honors

Varsity 8+ claims First Honor of the 2011 Spring Season

WINTER PARK, Fla. - The Nova Southeastern University Varsity 8+ has picked up the first Sunshine State Conference Boat of the Week honor of the spring..

The NSU crew notched three first-place finishes at the Division II Duals. The Sharks rowed to a time of 7:28.2 to finish ahead of Jacksonville and a second NSU crew in its first race of the event. The crew then posted a school-record time of 7:03.4 to defeat Central Oklahoma by 21.8 seconds. The boat rounded out an impressive weekend by crossing the finish line with a time of 7:04.5 to defeat Philadelphia by 24.2 seconds.

Manning the NSU boat were coxswain Elizabeth Tortorici (Fr., Winter Park, Fla.), Alyssa O'Donnell (Jr., Ballston Spa, N.Y.), Lauren Boudreau (So., Waterford, N.Y.), Jessica Sutter (Jr., Miami Beach, Fla.), Abigail Schiavo (Fr., Northfield, N.J.), Taylor Van Horn (Fr., Cape Coral, Fla.), Stephanie Hauck (Fr., Somers Point, N.J.), Mallorie Reinecke (Jr., Buffalo, N.Y.), and Heather Higbee (So., Ocean View, N.J.).

The Sharks will return to the waters on March 25 and 26 as they return to Canal 54 in Fellsmere, Fla. for the Division II Duals II.
