NSU Women’s Rowing Shines with Multiple Wins at FIRA Championship and D2 Invitational

CLERMONT, Fla. - Nova Southeastern University women's rowing had a strong stretch of regattas in late March and early April. At the FIRA Championship (March 27-28), the Sharks earned first-place finishes in the Collegiate Women's 1x and Novice 4, while also posting competitive times in the Varsity 8+ and Lightweight 4 events. At the D2 Invitational (April 4-5), NSU captured two victories in the Varsity 4+ events and gained valuable experience in the Varsity 8+, showcasing depth, coordination, and resilience across both small and large boats. 

How it Happened

  • March 27-28th - FIRA Championship
In the morning session, Nova Southeastern University faced off in the Collegiate Women's Varsity 8+, crossing the finish line in 8:48.36, competing against top boats from Embry-Riddle, FIT, Rollins, Florida A, Central Florida, and FSU. While the Sharks finished 5th, they gained valuable experience racing against a strong field.
Later in the day, NSU's Collegiate Women's 1x boat, claimed 1st place with a time of 9:10.62, narrowly holding off Embry-Riddle and Central Florida.
The afternoon session included the Collegiate Women's Lightweight 4, where NSU finished 2nd with a time of 8:50.67, just behind the University of Tampa. In the Novice 4 event, the Sharks captured 1st place in 8:53.53, edging Rollins College by less than four seconds.
Across both sessions, NSU's crews demonstrated depth and competitiveness, showing strong performances in both small and large boat events.
  • April 4-5th - D2 Invitational
The Nova Southeastern University women's rowing teams had an impressive showing at the regatta, capturing two first-place finishes in the Varsity 4+ events. 
In Event 5, the Sharks took the early lead, finishing in 7:48.920, just ahead of UCO by 2 seconds, showing strong coordination and speed. Later in Event 8, Nova continued their dominance with another win, crossing the line in 8:06.086, narrowly defeating ERAU by 1.5 seconds.
In the Varsity 8+ event, the Sharks faced tough competition and finished 8th, crossing the line in 7:53.143, just under a minute behind the leaders. Despite the challenge, the crew gained valuable race experience against top programs like Vanderbilt and Cal Poly.
The two victories highlight the depth and talent of the Sharks' program, with both boats executing clean races and demonstrating resilience against tough competition.
The Varsity 4+ boat rebounded impressively, taking 1st place with a time of 8:06.086, narrowly edging out ERAU by just 1.5 seconds. Nova demonstrated strong coordination and endurance, setting the tone for continued success in upcoming races.
