TEAM SCORES | RESULTS
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern swimming and diving teams returned to action Monday afternoon at the NSU Aquatic Center as both the men’s and women’s teams took their first duals losses against Division-II opponents. The No. 14 men’s team (4-1) lost to No. 4 Grand Valley State, 128-76, while the No. 11 women’s team lost to the No. 4 Lakers, 135-69.
The day started with the 200-yard medley relay as The Lakers took victories in both the men’s and women’s event. The Sharks’ A women’s team finished in second with a time of 1:52.43. The men’s A team also claimed second, finishing a second shy of the lead with a time of 1:36.09.
In the women’s 1000-yard freestlye,
Rebecca Bergen (Fr., Winnipeg, Canada) was the top finisher for the Sharks in third place with a time of 11:02.40. The men took their first victory of the day when
Jonas Grundstrom (Sr., Fagersta, Sweden) won the 1000-freestyle with a NCAA B-cut time of 9:41.94.
In the 200-yard freestyle, The Lakers took the top-three spots in both the men’s and women’s events.
Ashley Aranda (Sr., Kenner, La.) came in fourth place with a team-best time of 1:59.51 while
Florian Mehlan (So., Moers, Germany) also claimed fourth with a team-best 1:46.91.
In the women’s 50-yard freestyle,
Linea Cutter (Fr., Coral Springs, Fla.) led her squad with a time of 24.89 in second place. On the men’s side,
William Bunge (Sr., Springfield, Mo.) took third place with a time of 21.92. He just beat out teammate
Ash Dougan (Sr., Tewkesbury Glouchestershire, England), who finished just four tenths of a second behind Bunge.
The Sharks took another victory in the women’s 200-yard IM as
Lauren Chapple (Fr., London, England) took home the victory. She finished with a time of 2:11.68. In the men’s event,
Oscar Aldabe (So., Alicante, Spain) claimed third place with a team-best time of 1:59.68.
After the first break in action, the swimmers returned for the 100-yard butterfly. On the women’s side, Chapple claimed second place with a time of 59.37. In the men’s event,
Armin Hornikel (Sr., Goose Creek, S.C.) took home third place with a time of 53.52. The Sharks took home second place in both the men’s and women’s 100-yard freestyle. Cutter clocked in at 54.00 while Bunge finished in 48.38 seconds.
Aranda once again led the Sharks in an event as she claimed second place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:02.70. In the men’s version,
Josh Davis (So., Huron, S.D.) came in third place with a team-best time of 53.90.
Grundstrom would take his second win of the day in the men’s 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:43.46. In the women’s event,
Jessica Rocheleau (Fr., Jacksonville, Fla.) was the top finisher for the Sharks with a time of 5:22.28, good for third place.
After a second break, the 100-yard breaststroke began as the Sharks nearly pulled out two wins.
Ewa Jamborska (Sr., Katowice, Poland) was less than a half a second behind first place in the women’s event, clocking in at 1:08.09. On the men’s side, the Sharks claimed their final victory of the day as
Cameron Pfahler (Jr., Neptune Beach, Fla.) won with a time of 1:00.11.
The final event of the day came in the 200-yard freestyle relay in which the Lakers swept. NSU’s A team finished in second with a time of 1:44.76 while the men competed in one of the tightest races of the day, finishing in second with a time of 1:25.94. The men’s team was just over a tenth of a second behind the Lakers’ A team.
The Sharks will return for their last home meet of the season on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 3 p.m. against Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
