RESULTS
ORLANDO, Fla. – The No. 1 Nova Southeastern men’s golf team wrapped up its fall schedule with a second-place finish at the McDonough Cup, hosted by Rollins at the par-72 Rio Pinar Country Club.
The Sharks finished the tournament with a three-round score of 880 (294-291-295). NSU finished three strokes behind tournament champion, Lynn. With the second place finish, the Sharks wrap up a fall season that will go down as the most successful in program history. For the first time, the men’s golf team placed in the top-two in all four of its tournaments.
The tournament had a close finish, with a five-golfer playoff needed to determine the winner.
Benjamin Taylor (Jr., Leatherhead, England) finished the tournament with a +2 218 (72-72-74) and was among the five-man tie for first place. Lynn’s Daniel Young won the playoff and took home the individual title.
NSU had three players in the top-10, including
Ricardo Celia (Jr., Baranquilla, Columbia) and
Hunter O'Mahony (Fr., Jupiter, Fla.). Celia was one stroke away from entering into the playoff, scoring a +3 219 (70-76-73). He finished tied for sixth place. O’Mahoney finished in a tie for 10th place, by turning in a score of +5 221. O’Mahoney started the tournament with a first-round score of 77, but hit for an even-par 72 in each of the last two rounds.
Oscar Lengdèn (So., Helsingborg, Sweden) earned a top-25 finish in the tournament, placing in a tie for 23rd with a score of +9 225 (76-73-76). Rounding out the Sharks was
Ian Facey (So., Miami, Fla.), who finished with a score of 227 (76-74-77).
