RESULTS
FORT PIERCE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern swimming and diving teams clocked eight NCAA B-qualifying times during their meet against Indian River and Lynn Saturday. The men were defeated by Indian River, 156-105, and women fell to Indian River, 159-103, but defeated Lynn 193-50.
Erin Black (Sr.,Ft. Myers, Fla.),
Kimba Collymore (Sr.,St. James, Trindad.),
Miranda Schumes (Fr.,Bloomginton,In) and
Kristen Ann Zielinski (Fr., Coral Springs, Fla.) began the meet with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:52.38. Indian River’s “A” relay team finished first (1:46.74). On the men’s side, the Sharks “A” relay team of
Josh Davis (Jr., Huron, S.D.),
Oscar Aldabe (Jr., Alicante, Spain),
Santiago Pombo ( So., Bogota, Columbia), and
Esau Simpson (Jr., St. David's, Grenada) finished in second-place at 1:35.73 behind Indian River’s “A” relay time of 1:33.67.
The Sharks clocked their first winning time during the fourth event of the meet, when
Cameron Chambers (Jr., St. Petersburg, Fla.) reached the wall in 16:31.24, during the 1650-yard freestyle.
Chris Norris (So., Tallahassee, Fla.) placed second with a time of 16:42.57.
Jessica Rocheleau (So., Jacksonville, Fla.) was the best Shark in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:59.24. Teammate
Kelsea Smith (Sr., Edina, Fla.) followed right behind with a season-best time of 1:59.98.
Oskar Nordstrand (Sr., Stockholm, Sweden) was the top Shark in the event, reaching for second place with a time of 1:42.80.
In the 100-yard backstroke
Devan Martin (Sr., Duluth, Ga.) led the way with a third-place finish of 1:04.34. Following right behind her for fourth place was
Kelli Swanson (So., Palm Harbor, Fla.), who finished with a time of 1:06.08. Davis claimed his first victory of the meet in the event with a time of 52.31.
Collymore led the pack in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing second with a time of 1:07.15. The men took a 3-4-5 finish, as Aldabe led the pack with time of 59.96. Following him were
Cameron Pfahler (Jr., Neptune Beach, Fla.) and
Thomas Aycart (Jr., Miami, Fla.) with times of 1:00.65 and 1:01.11, respectively.
Miranda Schumes (Fr., Bloomington, Ind.) led the Sharks in the women’s 200-yard butterfly. She finished third with a time of 2:13.25. The men were led by Pombo, who finished second with a time of 1:51.50.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Zielinkski was the top woman for the Sharks with a time of 25.02. Simpson was the top shark for the men, finishing with a time of 21.56. Zielinkski once again led the Sharks in the 100-yard freestyle, placing second with a time of 54.01. On the men’s side. Simpson claimed third place with a time of 47.72.
In the 200-yard backstroke, Black took second place, touching the wall in 2:13.12. Davis earned a ‘W’ in that same event, with a winning time of 1:55.90, a second ahead of his competitor from Indian River. Collymore led the way in the 200-yard breaststroke, with a second-place finish of 2:28.81. Aldabe took third in the men’s event, clocking in at 2:10.60.
The Sharks did not race Black in the 500-yard freestyle, the event she in which she is currently the reigning NCAA National Champion. However, picking up the lead for the Sharks was Rocheleau, who finished second at 5:12.31. Nordstrand won the event for the men, touching in 4:43.75.
Schumes was the top Shark in the 100-yard fly, finishing third with a time of 1:01.70. On the men’s side, Pombo once again led NSU with a second-place time of 50.97. In the 200-yard IM, Schumes once again had a strong performance. The freshman placed in the top-five with a time of 2:18.62. Aldabe picked up the win in the final individual event of the day, finishing in 1:56.14.
The main event of the day was the 800-yard freestyle relay and the Sharks finished strong. The Sharks “A” team, made up of Zielinski, Black,
Linea Cutter (So., Coral Springs, Fla.) and Rocheleau, won with a time of 7:49.88. The men finished the day with a second place showing of 6:53.90. The “A” squad led the way, formed by
Michael Zislin (So., Lighthouse Point, Fla.),
Florian Mehlan (Jr., Moers, Germany), Davis and Nordstrand.
The Sharks will now get set for one of the year’s marquee dual meets on the road against Tampa on Dec. 1.
