Sharks score 13 runs over their last three offensive innings.

BOX SCORE

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -
The Nova Southeastern baseball team (13-4) earned wins on back-to-back nights, as the Sharks took out the St. Michael’s Purple Knights (3-4), 14-5, Wednesday night at the NSU Baseball Complex.

Ryan Woodrey (Fr., Lighthouse Point, Fla.) had a break out night, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored. The catcher’s performance doubled his season run total and tripled his RBI count. Ray Navarro (Sr., Miami, Fla.) hit 2-for-4 with three runs while Areo Regoli (Sr., Homestead, Fla.) went 2-for-2 with two walks, two RBI and a run scored.

Mike Gonzalez (Jr., Miami, Fla.) (2-0) earned the win in relief by pitching two no-hit innings. He only needed 21 pitches to reach six outs in the game. Roberto Baroniel (Fr., Miami, Fla.) started the game and only allowed one earned run over five innings pitched. He recorded four strikeouts and drew seven groundouts to three fly outs.

The Purple Knights came out aggressive as they had a leadoff runner in the first five innings. They put the Sharks in a 2-0 hole after the second inning and scored another run in the fourth. Starting pitcher Andrew Duprat held the Sharks’ offense back, only allowing one run over the first five frames. NSU only recorded three hits during that period.

The Sharks put themselves on the board in the third inning. Navarro led off with a single and, with two outs on the board, Regoli drove him home on a single through the left side.

Despite being held from crossing the plate more than once, the Sharks continued to wear Duprat down, as his pitch count reached 126 in the sixth inning. In that frame, the Sharks drew five walks and had seven base runners. The Sharks took their first lead of the game in the inning, with Nikko Echevarria (Sr., Abqaib, Saudi Arabia) driving home a run off a single to right centerfield and Chris Morales (Jr., Miami, Fla.) capping it off with a three-run triple to right field. It was Morales’ first triple at NSU.

The Sharks had their biggest inning of the night in the seventh, posting seven runs and taking a nine-run lead. Woodrey drove home three runs on a double to left center. Regoli and Javi Sujo (Sr., Miami, Fla.) each recorded a RBI in the frame while Alex Marrero (Jr., Miami, Fla.) drove in runs 11 and 12 on a triple to right field. It was his second triple of the season.

The teams each put on two runs in the 8th inning. Woodrey recorded an RBI off his first career triple to centerfield. Carlos Asuaje (So., Weston, Fla.) would bring home Woodrey for the last run of the game on a single. Sean Tighe (Sr., Hobe Sound, Fla.) closed the show in a non-save situation, holding the Purple Knights hitless and striking out two in the ninth.

The Sharks will face another Northeast-10 Conference team in No. 20 Franklin Pierce Saturday at 6 p.m. at the NSU Baseball Complex.
