RESULTS
FELLSMERE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern rowing team captured victories in a pair of varsity eight races Saturday, topping teams from Florida Tech and Emory.
The water on Canal 54 was calm throughout the full day of racing, with a slight cross building headwind between 3-5 mph towards the end of competition.
In the women’s varsity eight race, event five, NSU’s top boat came across the finish line in a time of 6:58.9, edging out the Sharks' 'B' boat by 4.2 seconds. Emory rounded out the field with a time of 7:20.2.

The Sharks’ ‘B’ boat featured:

Mallorie Reinecke (Jr., East Amherst, N.Y.),
Caitlin Mooney (So., Centerville, Mass.),
Alyssa O'Donnell (Sr., Ballston Spa, N.Y.),
Amanda Craig (Fr., Berlin, N.J.),
Abbey Schiavo (So., Northfield, N.J.),
Remi McClellan (Fr., Mullica, N.J.),
Sarah Patterson (Jr., Winter Park, Fla.) and
Dayna Triana (So., Homosassa, Fla.).
In the varsity eight race, event 15, the Sharks first boat finished with a time of 7:31.2, 3.1 seconds ahead of Florida Tech. NSU's second boat in the event came in just over three seconds behind in third with a crossing time of 7:37.9
"In large team sports, depth is the key to success and we are starting to see some great gains in practices and races as a result of each individual stepping up on a daily basis," said head coach Mary Lenington following the race.
The Sharks also had a pair of boats on the water competing in the varsity four race, finishing second and third. Finishing with a time of 8:29.8 in NSU's 'A' boat was:
Sarah Erickson (Fr., Sunrise, Fla.), Triana,
Emma Jordan (Sebastian, Fla.),
Jennifer McDaniel (So., Deland, Fla.) and
Emily Harrington (So., Virginia Beach, Va.).
NSU’s second boat of:
Katie Dabrowski (So., Vero Beach, Fla.),
Kelsey Obringer (Fr., Port Republic, N.J.),
Emily Maines (Fr., Tampa, Fla.),
Christie McElhenny (Sr., Ocean City, N.J.) and
Deonnah Findley (So., Minneapolis, Minn.) came in third with a time of 8:43.7. Columbia won the event in a crossing time of 7:57.2.
The Sharks will take next week off from competition before hosting Barry in a conference dual matchup March 31. Racing will take place out of Holland Park in Hollywood, Fla. with competition happening on the Intracoastal Waterway.
