Men’s Golf Makes Cut and Advances to Match Play of NCAA Championships as Third Seed

Sharks prepare for first match play round against CSU-Monterey Bay.

HERSHEY, Pa.
– The No. 1 Nova Southeastern men’s golf team made the cut and has advanced to the match play format of the NCAA Championships at the Hershey Country Club East Course, finishing as the third seed, shooting a 25-over 877 (292-290-295) for the tournament.

The Sharks made the top-eight team cut to advance and were 11-over on the day, shooting a 295 to finish third in the 20-team field, one stroke behind Barry, who were 24-over, shooting a team 876 (284-288-304) and Florida Southern, who jumped up top of the leaderboard, carding an amazing 4-under 280 on the day to finish the team stroke play format with a 15-over 867 (294-293-280). The format moving forward will be head-to-head match play, in which the Sharks will first take on sixth-seeded CSU-Monterey Bay in hopes of advancing and playing a second semifinal round of match play immediately following.

Leading the charge today for the Sharks was Mitch Farrer (Jr., West Sussex, England), who shot a 1-over 72 on the day to go 10-over for the tournament, carding a 223 (78-73-72) to finish with a share of 27th on the leaderboard. Today was Farrer’s lowest round thus far, in which he shot a 1-over 37 on the front matched with an even 35 on the back.

Ricardo Celia (Jr., Barranquilla, Columbia) had the second lowest round for the Sharks, carding a 2-over 72 on the day. Celia finished the highest on the individual leaderboard after the three team rounds with a share of seventh after shooting a 4-over 217 (73-71-73) for the tournament.

The third best of the day came from Benjamin Taylor (Jr., Leatherhead, England), who knocked down a 3-over 74 on the day, finishing with a share of 24th on the leaderboard. Taylor shot a 2-over 38 on the front with a 1-over 36 on the back, adding to his 9-over 222 (72-76-74) for the tournament.

Rounding out the final two scores for the Sharks were Hunter O'Mahony (Fr., Jupiter, Fla.) and Ian Facey (So., Miami, Fla.), who finished with a share of 11th and 64th on the leaderboard, respectively, to conclude the team play portion of the tournament. O’Mahony carded a 5-over 76, which consisted of a 1-over 37 on the front with a 4-over 39 on the back to card a 5-over 218 (70-72-76) for the tournament. Facey carded a 9-over 80 on the day with a 7-over 43 front, paired with a 2-over 37 on the back, bringing him to an 18-over 231 (77-74-80).

The Sharks are back in action Thursday morning against CSU-Monterey Bay to tackle the first round of 18-hole match play in hopes of playing 36 holes and advancing to the NCAA Championships final round on Friday.
