Box Score COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Nova Southeastern women's soccer team (2-1-0) earned its biggest win of the season against North Alabama (2-2-0), 3-0, Friday afternoon.
Malin Broberg (Sr., Stockholm, Sweden) scored the game-winning goal and her third goal of the season in the 11th minute of the match. A through ball past the Lions defense from the freshman
Rut Kristjansdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) put Broberg one-on-one with the keeper. Broberg put the ball in the back of the net for the match-clinching goal.
The Sharks were in control from the get go, outshooting the Lions, 6-4, in the first half. Goalkeeper
Sandra Rolon (Jr., San Juan, P.R.) wasn't challenged in the first half, making just one of her two saves of the match.
With a little more than a minute left in the first half,
Sydney Franko (Fr., Fort Pierce, Fla.) played a beautiful ball into the box from a corner kick. UNA goalkeeper Rachel Beniati let the ball slip through her fingertips, finding
Dilja Olafsdottir (Sr., Reykjavik, Iceland) open back post and finished easily, giving NSU a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
The Sharks sealed the deal in the 58th minute after
Stephanie Moench (So., Austin, Texas) drove a low cross far post, where
Andi Burchfield (Jr., Greenville, S.C.) controlled the ball and blasted a left footed shot into the upper left corner of the net.
The Lions had one good opportunity to score in the closing minutes of the match, however, the crossbar was kind to Rolon and NSU, preserving the teams second shutout of the season.
In the match, NSU outshot the Lions, 15-7. Also, the Sharks had the advantage on corner kicks taken, 7-4.
The 3-0 win marks the most goals in a match since Oct. 6, 2012, when the Sharks beat Saint Leo, 4-0, on the road.
NSU will take a day off before taking on Lenoir-Rhyne on Sunday in Columbus, Ga., with kickoff set for 12:30 p.m.
