Nytorp's Hat Trick, Two Assists Leads Women's Soccer to 6-1 Victory in Finale

Sharks scored four goals in less than eight minutes in second-half span

Box Score

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University women's soccer team finished off the 2014 season by winning their last four, defeating Johnson & Wales 6-1 in their finale Thursday night at the NSU Soccer Complex.

After a dominating first half that saw the Sharks (8-6-0) hold the Wildcats (3-9-4) without a shot while they netted two goals – Cydney Niedermeyer (So., Fort Myers, Fla.) in the 16th and Elizabeth Haumschild (Jr., Riverview, Fla.) in the 26th – it was a fast and furious eight minutes in the second that iced the game.

In the 56th minute, Julia Nytorp (Jr., Örnsköldsvik, Sweden) took a pass from Enfiniti Stephens (Fr., Burleson, Texas), lobbed it to herself over the sliding JWU goalkeeper Jenna Boersma, and found the net. After finally picking up their first shot just seconds prior to that goal, the Wildcats got one of their own in the 59th on a nice cross by Olivia Blake, with Desiree Rundick scoring to make it 3-1.

That seemed to light a fire under the Sharks, and especially Nytorp. She scored just 17 seconds later, and again 2:51 seconds after that, to notch the first hat trick of her NSU career. Combined with two assists on each first-half goal, the Sharks' junior tallied eight points and had a hand in five scores.

After her third, at 63:22, the Sharks would score again 1:04 later with Haumschild's second goal of the night (and the season). That would end the scoring. NSU would end up outshooting the Wildcats 27-5, including 17 shots after the break.

In the four-game win streak, the Sharks outscored their opponents 15-1, and for the season, 38-22. Nytorp finished just one goal shy of the season leader, Sierra Lelii (R-Jr., Seminole, Fla.), who had 10 despite missing the last three matches. The Sharks bid farewell to seniors Kaitlyn Cauffman (Orlando, Fla.) and Kelsey McCusker (Stone Harbor, N.J.).
