FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University Director of Athletics
Michael Mominey announced today that
Stephen Frazier Wong has announced his resignation as the head coach of NSU women's rowing to accept the head coaching role at Clemson University. A national search will begin immediately until filled.
"Stephen has made a huge impact in just a few short years as the head coach of women's rowing. There is no doubt that the program has become more nationally recognized under his leadership," Mominey said. "We wish Stephen and his family the best as they pursue this tremendous opportunity at a highly respected institution. We will begin a national search immediately to find the next great coach for NSU. We will maintain our expectations of having a championship rowing team and I would expect to have a quality pool of candidates who are ready to take on that challenge."
Frazier Wong claimed the program's first NCAA Division II national championship during his first season with the Sharks in 2013 and finished second at the NCAA finals in 2014. During his two seasons, he was named Sunshine State Conference Coach of the Year twice (2013, 2014) and won the 2014 conference championship. He tutored nine national scholar athletes, five CRCA All-Americans and his squad posted a 3.30 team grade point average each year.
"It has been a privilege to be the head rowing coach here at NSU," Frazier Wong said. "I got to work with an amazing group of student-athletes, staff and administrators who strive to achieve excellence in everything they do. Any success that we have had during the last two years has been a direct result of collaborating with these quality individuals. I know that I am leaving a program that was great before I got here and will continue to be great long after I have left. I want to thank Director of Athletics, Michael Mominey for all the support that he has given the rowing program and for allowing me to be a part of such a wonderful team, department and university."
Frazier Wong came to NSU after seven years at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He started out as an assistant coach in 2005 working primarily with the Tar Heels novice crew. In 2008, he was promoted to associate head coach.
