FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University women's soccer team will travel for their final out-of-conference matchup of the regular season as they head to Babson Park, Florida to face Webber International, Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m.
The Sharks (8-2-0) have won each of their last five games, their longest streak without a loss since 2007, and their 2-1 overtime victory on Saturday against Palm Beach Atlantic matched their win total of a year ago. They've already clinched at least a .500 mark for the second straight season, with a Tuesday victory ensuring an above-.500 mark in head coach
John Constable's first year.
Based on her game-winner Saturday, plus a hat trick the win before vs. Lynn,
Sierra Lelii (R-Sr., Seminole, Fla.) is now a three-time recipient of the SSC Offensive Player of the Week this season alone. She now has 13 goals on the year, and leads the SSC in all striking categories. That is, in everything offensive except assists, which happens to be topped by
Samantha Gestido (Sr., Hialeah, Fla.), whose corner set up Lelii's golden goal against PBA for her sixth of the season.
Amanda Kopale (R-Jr., Cape Coral, Fla.) improved to 4-1 in net with the two most recent wins, fronted by suffocating defenders, including a trio of which that played all 183 minutes in those same matches:
Stephanie Moench (Sr., Austin, Texas),
Cydney Niedermeyer (Jr., Fort Myers, Fla.) and
Lauren Paul (R-Sr., Stockton, Calif.).
Webber International (2-4), an NAIA school out of Babson Park, will be playing their fourth SSC opponent this year. In addition to a preseason exhibition against Florida Southern. they lost 4-3 to Eckerd and 5-0 to Lynn. After a 4-0 win over Thomas University this past Thursday, they were most recently edged out by SCAD-Savannah 3-2 on Sunday.
The Warriors' Cierra Abundez has poured in the bulk of the team's scoring, totaling nine out of the 16 goals on the year. She also has 21 of their 41 points and has taken almost half of their shots (40 of 82).
All-time, the Sharks lead the series against the Warriors, 15-1, with the lone loss coming on Sept. 13, 1997, 1-0 in overtime. Game time is 3 p.m., and both live streaming (
