FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Former Nova Southeastern University men's golf All-American Ricardo Celia has advanced to the final stage of qualifying and has earned at least conditional status for the professional Web.com Tour.
Celia, a three-time All-American while at NSU, tied for fourth out of the original field of 80 during the weekend's second stage of the Web.com Tour's Q School, held at the nearby Plantation Preserve Golf Course & Club. He shot a four-round, 10-under total of 274, with three rounds in the 60's (67-73-66-68).
After the conclusion of the next step, the final stage to be played in mid-December, Celia will have at least earned conditional status on the Web.com Tour. The winner is exempt for the entirety of 2016, while all finishes throughout the remainder of the field determines some status on the tour. That status is also contingent on "periodic re-ordering," which is individual results during Web.com Tour tournament play during the 2016 season.
At its core, because Celia has moved into the final stage, he will be a member of this tour at some to-be-determined level next season, just a step below the PGA Tour itself. He will be competing at the Q School Finals Dec. 10-13, on the Champion and Fazio courses at PGA National Resort and Spa, the site of NSU's home event all four seasons Celia was on the squad.
