FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University baseball team (11-7, 3-0 SSC) took care of the American International College Yellow Jackets (1-6) on Wednesday night, scoring 16 runs on 14 hits and tossing eight-of-nine scoreless innings. Steve Fleming (1-0) earned his first collegiate win, while
Teft Hill,
Dylan Woods and
Jake Anchia all homered.
The Sharks didn't waste anytime, scoring five runs in the first inning.
Daniel Zardon drove in the first two runs with a double over the centerfielders head. Anchia followed with his first collegiate home run, a two-run moonshot over the scoreboard. Woods capped the inning with a single through the right side, one of his three RBI's on the night.
The Sharks scored two more runs in the bottom of the second inning, thanks to Zardon and
Kevin Suarez RBI-singles. NSU would hit double digits in the fourth inning when Woods showcased his power with a three-run homerun over the left field fence, the first opposite field homerun of his life according to Woods.
Based on crowd and bench reactions, the highlight of the game came in the bottom of the fifth inning with the bases loaded and the score 11-0.
Teft Hill stepped to the plate for his second pinch-hit opportunity of the year and launched the second pitch he saw over the left field wall, prompting a frenzy to breakout in the Sharks' dugout. The pinch-hit homerun marks Teft's fourth pinch-hit homerun in as many opportunities, dating back to April 25, 2015.
On the mound, Fleming,
Julian Loret de Mola,
Alexander Kline,
Devin Pellien,
Joe DiBenedetto,
