"We want to thank Heather for her hard work within the program and wish her and her entire family the best as they relocate for the next step in her career," Mominey said. "To that end, we are excited to announce that Devin has accepted an offer to immediately become the interim head coach of the NSU rowing team. Devin has been a dedicated and loyal member of our staff and is committed to the success of the student-athletes in our rowing program."
In just two years at the helm, Barney continued to keep NSU rowing in the national spotlight with back-to-back appearances at the NCAA Division II Rowing Championships. The team also secured consecutive second-place finishes at the SSC Championships in 2015 and 2016.
Fay will assume the duties as interim head coach after serving as an assistant coach under Barney the past two seasons. He has also had coaching stints at Bates College, Cornell, Smith College and Taylor Allderdice High School, and served as the assistant lightweight coach for the United States National Team 8+ in 2012.
Prior to NSU, Barney spent two seasons at Bucknell University as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. She was also an assistant at Georgetown from 2007-11 and spent two seasons as an assistant at her alma mater from 2005-07.
Barney graduated with a bachelor's degree in economics from Williams College and holds a master's degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University.
