Box Score FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – It its 2016 home opening match, the NSU women's soccer team cruised past the visiting Warriors of Webber International University, 4-1.
Making her collegiate debut,
Hannah Christophe tallied the Sharks' (1-0) first goal of the season at the 19:43 mark, taking a feed from
Alexys Nowak and sending the ball into the top-left corner of the net from 15 yards out.
Less than five minutes later at the 24:06 mark,
Sini Laaksonen also tallied her first ever collegiate goal, giving the Sharks a 2-0 advantage.
After the break, the Warriors (0-1) quickly netted their lone tally of the match at the 45:57 mark with an unassisted goal by Juliana Fuentes, bringing the difference to just one, 2-1, in NSU's favor.
Nicole Staley gave Nova Southeastern another goal advantage, 3-1, at the 50:31 mark.
Laaksonen tallied her second goal of the night at the 61:28 mark on a penalty-kick shot, resulting as the last score for any team, and giving the Sharks a 4-1 advantage.
Offensively, NSU held Webber in their defensive half most of the night, outshooting the Warriors 31-3 overall and 11-2 on goal.
Newcomer
Ida Norstrom (1-0) picked up her first win as a Shark, spending the first 45:00 in goal and making one save.
Jordan Lentz and
Brittany Plombon split time in goal during the second half, and neither were forced to make a save.
Despite a strong outing in goal for the Warriors, starting goalkeeper Sarah Mckinney was saddled with the loss after spending all 90:00 in goal, making seven saves, and allowing four goals.
Next up is another home matchup for the Sharks, versus Catawba on Saturday night. The game is slated to begin at 7:00 pm at the NSU Soccer Complex.
