Sharks Top Eckerd 7-2 For Weekend Sweep

NSU improves to 3-2 in SSC play.

Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – After upsetting No. 15 Florida Southern on Saturday, the Nova Southeastern women's tennis team secured a weekend sweep with an 8-1 win over Eckerd College at the Bullard Courts in St. Petersburg, Fla. on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
DOUBLES:
  • Following a default at No. 3, Ana Navas and Isabella Lowrey tied the match, 1-1, with a dominant 8-1 victory over Bailey Koronich and Maryann Aaron at No. 2.
  • Andrea Ivanovic and Daniela Obando gave the Sharks a 2-1 lead going into singles after an identical score of 8-1 against Joyce Fields and Taylor Selby at No. 1.
 
SINGLES
  • The Tritons tied the match 2-2 after a default at No. 6.
  • Alex Yeardley quickly regained the lead for the Sharks with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout against Koronich at No. 4.
  • Ivanovic followed right behind Yeardley and increased the lead to 4-2 after defeating Fields, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2.
  • For the second straight match, Obando clinched the match point and increased her winning streak to four with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Aaron at No. 3.
  • Navas picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win in the top-flight bringing the score to 6-2.
  • Lowrey put the icing on the cake to the SSC weekend sweep with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 5.
NEAGLE'S NOTES
 
"Great follow up performance after taking down No. 15 Florida Southern yesterday," said head coach, Doug Neagle. "This weekend gave our girls a lot more confidence after playing through adversity for the past few weeks. We just need to keep up this intensity for the rest of the season. I know we can do it."
