Sharks Gearing Toward Spring Season Opener with Barry Scrimmage

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - Saturday marked an early-season test for the Nova Southeastern women's rowing team as the Sharks competed in a friendly head-to-head against local and Sunshine State Conference competitor Barry on a sunshine-filled morning on Indian Creek.

RESULTS:
In a three-by-ten-minute piece format with rating caps, the Sharks boated a mixed lineup due to some early season injuries for both teams with some athletes from the Fall's top boats unavailable to race.

"It certainly gave us an idea of where some of the top speed in the Sunshine State will be this year," fifth-year head coach Devin Fay said. This date also marked the first on-the-water competition for the walk-ons and they really impressed.

"We had a competitive opportunity in a head-to-head situation to really test our nerve in some of the longer distance pieces," Fay added.

UP NEXT:
The Sharks continue their early-season tests with a home race next weekend, Saturday, Feb. 23 in Hollywood, Fla., hosting Florida Tech on NSU's home waterway in a similar informal scrimmage -- featuring multiple races shorter than the traditional 2000-meter course length.  Their official Spring season opens on Saturday, March 23, in Fellsmere, Fla. as Florida Tech hosts the Sharks, Embry-Riddle and Barry in the Division II Double Duals.
