CLERMONT, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern softball team traveled north to Clermont, Fla. to compete in THE Spring Games on Sunday afternoon. The Sharks faced off against the Davenport Panthers twice, dropping the first game, 1-0, before topping DU 7-5 in the nightcap.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP (GAME ONE):

HOW IT HAPPENED:
TOP 2ND | Errors plagued the Sharks in the top of the second, as three errors allowed the Panthers to tally the lone run of the game for their eventual 1-0 win.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Tia Williams finished 2-for-4, while Sydney Lageyre and Aubry Hernandez recorded NSU's two other hits.
- Lexie Storrer was saddled with the loss after pitching the entire game, allowing one run (0 ER) off five hits. She also dished out five strikeouts and only one walk.
- DU's Mallory Teunissen earned the win also pitching 7.0 innings, with four hits allowed and tallying 10 strikeouts.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP (GAME TWO):
FINAL: Nova Southeastern Sharks 7 (W: M. Schmoll, 4-2), Davenport Panthers 5 (L: T. Simon, 0-1),
RECORDS: Nova Southeastern (9-6), Davenport (1-5)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
BOTTOM 1ST | The Panthers tallied their first run early, as a sacrifice fly score the leadoff batter.
BOTTOM 2ND | With the bases loaded, a fielder's choice allowed DU to extend their lead to 2-0 before a ground out halted any more scoring from the home team on the scoreboard.
TOP 3RD | Back-to-back errors by the Panthers put NSU in scoring position with
Alex Suzuki on second and Williams at first. A Lageyre single to first loaded up the bases before a two-RBI double by
Suka Van Gurp knotted the game, 2-2, scoring Suzuki and Williams. After a Hernandez single, back-to-back RBI-singles by
Miriam Schmoll and
Sydney Anderson gave NSU its first lead of the day, 4-2.
BOTTOM 3RD | The Panthers responded in the bottom half of the inning, tallying their final three runs of the game on a Shark error and RBI-single, taking back their lead, 5-4.
TOP 4TH | With one out on the board and Lageyre on first, Van Gurp sent a triple to right center to score her and tie things up once more, 5-5. After a Davenport pitching change, Hernandez singled to center field to bring home Van Gurp, putting NSU back on top, 6-5.
TOP 5TH | After starting the inning with back-to-back ground outs, the Sharks took advantage of a single by
Keeley Mayers and a throwing error by the Panthers to put runners on the corners. The next batter, Williams, singled and was thrown out at second base, but not before Mayers crossed the plate for NSU's final tally of the game.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- The Sharks tallied 14 hits to DU's seven, with Van Gurp leading the way with four hits from four at-bats. She also registered three RBI and scored twice.
- Lageyre, Hernandez, Schmoll and Mayers were all 2-for-4, with Hernandez and Schmoll each adding an RBI apiece.
- Schmoll added the win to her resume, tossing all 7.0 innings of play and allowing five runs, only one earned, on seven hits.
- Davenport's starting pitcher, Taylor Simon, took the loss after pitching the first 3.1 innings and giving up six runs (4 ER) on 10 hits. Emma Miller closed out the last 3.2 innings and allowed one run on four hits.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Today was the first meeting between Davenport and Nova Southeastern.

The Sharks will continue competition in THE Spring Games on Monday, squaring off against Davenport for the tiebreaker at 9:45 a.m. before wrapping up with Kentucky Wesleyan at 12:00 p.m.
