MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern softball team earned the series sweep of Barry on Sunday afternoon, demolishing the home team 19-0 in the day's first game before topping them 3-1 in the finale. On the day, five different Sharks recorded home runs.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP (GAME ONE):

HOW IT HAPPENED:
TOP 1ST | After stealing both second and third after leading the game off with an infield single,
Sydney Lageyre put the Sharks on the board, scoring on a throwing error by Barry's catcher. After drawing a walk,
Tia Williams mimicked Lageyre, stealing stealing both second and third before a sacrifice bunt by
Aubry Hernandez scored her. With the bases loaded,
Alex Suzuki singled through the left side to score Schmoll, who was also walked, for a 3-0 NSU lead. Back-to-back bases loaded walks scored two more for the Sharks, making it a 5-0 lead at the end of the first frame.
TOP 2ND | Two consecutive singles by Van Gurp and Schmoll put NSU in scoring position, Hernandez was hit by a pitch to load them up, before a wild pitch allowed Van Gurp to score. A double down the right field line by
Keeley Mayers made it 7-0 in NSU's favor before a sacrifice fly by Suzuki pushed it to 8-0 after bringing home Hernandez.
TOP 3RD | Nova Southeastern made it 9-0 in the top of the third, as Schmoll singled to left field to plated Lageyre, who led the inning off with a walk.
TOP 4TH | The Sharks tallied another single run in the fourth, making it 10-0, as a ground out by Lageyre brought home Mayers, who singled four batters prior.
TOP 5TH | The offense for NSU exploded in the top of the fifth, tallying nine runs on six hits with three homeruns. With Van Gurp on third and Schmoll on first, Hernandez flied out to center, scoring Van Gurp, before Mayers and
Sydney Anderson were both hit by pitches to load the bases. The next batter, Suzuki, sent a grand slam over the left field fence, pushing the Sharks' lead out to 15-0.
Kayla Kight was walked and a single by Williams put NSU back in scoring position with two outs on the board, before Van Gurp homered to left to bring them both home. The next batter, Schmoll, also sent the long ball over the left field fence to score NSU's final run of the game, bringing the final score to 19-0.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Schmoll finished a solid 4-for-4 with two RBI and scored four times, while Van Gurp was 3-for-5 with three RBI and scored three times.
- Suzuki was 2-for-3 with a team-high six RBI, and Mayers was 2-for-2 with an RBI and three scored runs.
- Lageyre recorded one hit in her three at-bats, tallying two RBI and two walks drawn.
- Along with an impressive offensive outing, Schmoll also earned the win for the Sharks in the circle, going the distance, allowing no runs and just four hits with five strikeouts.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Schmoll's home run was the first of the season, and her five strikeouts were a season-high.
- The Sharks have now tallied 19 home runs on the season, surpassing the program's highest 17 homeruns back in 2014, with half of the season remaining.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
TOP 2ND | Unlike the first game, the Sharks scored all three runs in one inning. Mayers recorded her second home run of the weekend in the second to make it 2-0, bringing home Schmoll, who reached on a dropped fly ball to lead off the inning. Registering the Sharks' fifth home run of the say, Anderson sent a solo shot over the left venter fence to make it 3-0.
BOTTOM 5TH | The Bucs tallied their lone run of the day on a throwing error by the Sharks.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Sharks were limited to five hits in the second game, with Anderson leading the way with two of them in her three at-bats.
- Mayers, Lageyre and Williams were all 1-for-3, with Mayers adding two RBI.
- Storrer was credited the win, pitching all 7.0 innings and giving up one run on five hits with eight strikeouts.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Storrer's eight strikeouts become her new season-high, surpassing her previous record of seven set last night.
- This is NSU's third conference series win of the season.

The Sharks will host a non-conference doubleheader against Queens College on Wednesday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
