Sharks Rowing Battle Panthers in Final Spring Scrimmage

NSU continues to practice in preparation for the upcoming SSC Double Duals

FELLSMERE, Fla. – On a pleasant Spring afternoon at the Indian River Rowing Club on Canal 54, the Nova Southeastern women's rowing team concluded their final friendly competition of the 2020 season against Florida Tech, before the two squads meet in two weeks time for the SSC Double Duals.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
LOCATION: Canal 54 | Fellsmere,, Fla.
HOST: Florida Tech
FOLLOW US: @NSUSHARKS on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube

CONDITIONS:
Sunny and beautiful with temperatures in the low 70's, light 10 mph winds, and a flat water surface.

RACE FORMAT:
Raced in 4x1500 meter pieces and the last piece was 1x1000m with stroke rates between 24-30 per minute, escalating through pieces.

RESULTS:

Varsity 8:
Varsity 4:
  • Miranda Sadlow (coxswain), led Angie Hansel, Savanna Duda, Victoria Kelley and Emily Jawor in the V4's.
  • With three walk-ons manning the boat, the Sharks got to see where it can make improvements in comparison to an experienced FIT crew.

BEYOND THE RESULTS WITH COACH FAY:
  • "When you go against a really strong team like FIT, it is going to be tough to stay with them, said head coach Devin Fay. I thought both boats displayed some toughness as we fought hard and gave great effort.  Today, the results were just a byproduct of being out powered."
  • "It will be interesting to see as we come together over this Spring Break and we get more of our upperclassmen back in the mix, if we can see some pretty big gains in speed because we are going to need it if we want to compete for the top spots in the SSC."
  • "I am really looking forward to training at the boathouse on the beautiful Hollywood Intracoastal and pushing our squad to get the most out of their athletic abilities and try to gain a lot of speed over the break."
UP NEXT
NSU will continue their non-competitive training schedule over the next couple of weeks before opening up against the Sunshine State Conference in the Double Duals on Mar. 14.
