RESULTS
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern swimming and diving teams claimed their final conference victory Saturday against Florida Southern heading into the SSC championship. The No. 13 men (6-3, 4-0 SSC) defeated the Moccasins 105-100, whereas the No. 11 women (5-5, 4-0 SSC) boosted their record with a 120-83 victory. The Sharks have hit their stride in conference action, claiming eight NCAA B-cut qualifying times.
Leading off for the Sharks in the women’s 1650-yard freestyle and claiming the victory was
Rebecca Bergen (Fr., Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) with a finishing time of 18:03.57. Placing second only a second and change behind Bergen was
Marie Hanft (Jr., Port Orange, Fla.) with a time of 18:04.30 and finishing up in third for the Sharks was Kelsea Smith (Jr., Edina, Fla.), with a time of 18:14.22.
The following event, the men’s 500- free,
Jonas Grundstrom (Sr., Fagersta, Sweden) captured the victory with a B-cut qualifying time of 4:37.51 and
Chris Norris (So., Tallahassee, Fla.) claimed second with a finishing time of 4:44.63.
The women’s 200- free featured two Sharks clinching a victory and second place with two B-cut qualifying times.
Erin Black (Jr., Fort Myers, Fla.) took first with a time of 1:54.83 and following her lead was
Lauren Chapple (Fr., London, England) with a second-place time of 1:55.71.
Chapple continued here success in the women’s 200-yard butterfly with her second victory B-cut time of 2:08.73. Finishing in second was
Emma Lawrenz (Fr., Minnetonka, Minn.) with a time of 2:12.72.
The men’s second B-cut time of the meet came from
Armin Hornikel (Sr., Goose Creek, S.C.), capturing the victory with a time of 46.66.
The women’s 500- free featured three Sharks claiming the top three spots. Black claimed the number one slot with her second B-cut time of the day, finishing at 5:03.21. Bergen placed second with a time of 5:20.61 and pulling in third was Hanft with a finishing time of 5:21.64.
To finish out the meet in the men’s 1650- free, the Sharks claimed first, second and third place and two more B-cut finishing times. Grundstrom with his second B-cut of the meet captured the victory with a time of 16:08.31.
Addison Cates (Fr., Port Charlotte, Fla.), captured second place with a B-cut qualifying time of 16:16.99 and landing the third slot for the Sharks was
Oskar Nordstrand (Jr., Stockholm, Sweden) with a time of 16:22.93.
This meet concludes the Sharks regular season, as they remained undefeated in conference action throughout. NSU will be back in action Feb. 15-18 at the Sunshine State Conference Championships in Clearwater, Fla. The men will look to defend their title from last season, whereas the women will look to make their mark and claim their first conference championship.
