RESULTS
WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams posted another victory against Rollins as the men’s team (2-0) won 149-32, and women’s team (2-0) won 153-52.
The winning began in the women’s 200-yard medley relay, when the Sharks relay team of Erin Black Sr.,Fort Myers, Fla.), Ashley Bransford (Jr., Santa Cruz, Aruba), Kristen Ann Zielinski (Fr.,Cheasapeake, Va.) and Linea Cutter (So., Coral, Springs, Fla.) touched at 1:52.34
In similar fashion, the men’s relay teams placed in first and second in the 200-Medley Relay. The team of Josh Davis (So., Huron, S.D.), Cameron Pfahler (Jr., Neptune Beach, Fla.), Darren Rubenchik (Jr., Ontario, Canada.) and Jim Shelley (Jr., Charlottesville, Va.) clocked in at the top time of 1:38.76. The quartet of Michael Zislin (So., Lighthouse, Fla.), Thomas Aycart (Jr., Miami, Fla.), Esau Simpson (Jr., St. David’s, Grenada),and Colin Sonstrom (Fr., Bristol, Conn.) finished in second-place 1:40.54.
During the 200-yard freestyle, Black recorded an NCAA “B” qualifying time touching at 1:55.43. She was touched out by Rollins, Audrey Kula who broke her own school’s record with a time of 1:54.54.Jessica Rocheleau (So., Jacksonville, Fla.) finished after Black at 2:00.83. On the men’s side the Sharks had the top-two times with Oskar Nordstrand (Sr., Stockholm, Sweden) and Simpson clocking in at 1:45.35 and 1:47.69, respectively.
The women’s team placed in the top-two in the 200-yard Individual Medley, who was paced by Bransford, with a time of 2:17.55. Miranda Schumes (Fr., Bloomington, In.) clocked in the second-best time reaching the wall at a 2:18.39. Both were season-best times for the girls. The men’s team finished in top-two spots in the 200-IM and were paced by Patrick Hayes (Fr., Jacksonville, Fla.) time of 2:03.64. Aycart was a few seconds behind Hayes, and touched next at 2:05.25.
In the 200-yard butterfly, the Sharks had a top-three finish with Schumes leading the way with a time of 2:12.05. Following Schumes, was Kathleen Bowman (Fr., Iowa City, IA) who went a 2:12.79. Rounding out the top-3 was Sammy Akoubian (Jr., Run Ducala, Ga.) who finished with a time of 2:16.88. The men also had the top-two finishes in the event with Rubenchik and Zislin touching the wall in times of 1:58.37 and 2:02.38, respectively.
In the 100-yard freestyle, the women had another top-three finish with Cutter leading with way with a time of 54.67. Following her was teammate, Alexandra Zatylny (Jr., Quebec, Canada) with a time of 55.29 and rounding out the top-three was Kelsea Smith (Jr., Edina, Minn.) finishing with a time of 56.50. Simpson claimed victory in the event, as he touched the wall in a 48.09.
In the 200-yard backstroke Black was victorious with a time of 2:12.74. Following her was teammate, Kelli Swanson (So., Palm Harbor, Fla.) finishing with a time of 2:16.50. Then rounding out the group for third was Lauryn Howell (So., Clearwater, Fla.) who touched the wall with a time of 2:18.70. The men had a similar showing in the event with Nordstrand leading his team with a time of 2:00.83. Following Nordstrand, were fellow teammates Florian Mehlan (Jr., Moors, Germany) and Zislin clocking in at 2:04.52 and 2:05.57, respectively.
In the 500-yard freestyle Zielinkski was victorious with a time of 5:10.28. On the men’s side, Chambers led the way with a time of 4:52.85. Following him were teammates Davis and Jonathan Key (Jr., Biltmore Lakes, N.C) with times of 4:55.31 and 4:56.40, respectively.
Bransford swam to victory in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:24.93. Collymore and Akoubian had the next best finishes with times of and 2:28.92 and 2:29.16, respectively. Hayes and Key also had the top-two finishes in the same event with times of 2:15.73 and 2:17.05, respectively.
The women’s quartet of Cutter, Rocheleau, Zatylny, Collymore won the 400-yard freestyle with a time of 3:39.80. The men followed the women’s lead and took home the last event with the team of Davis, Mehlan, Shelley, and Nordstrand that finished with a time 3:15.66.
The Sharks compete again Saturday Nov. 17, against Indian River with the time to be decided.
