2011-2012 Community Service

Nova Southeastern Athletics is committed to giving back to the community by participating in numerous service projects. Our goal is to broaden the scope of our student-athletes by getting them involved with NSU’s various community partnerships. Below are the community service events that NSU has taken apart of.

Baseball Participates in Local Coaches Clinic - The Nova Southeastern baseball team took time away from the fall season to participate in the Greg Brown’s Baseball Coaches Clinic Friday, Nov. 4. The clinic, held at Bamford Park in Davie, Fla., was aimed at both players and coaches from the Davie Little League Travel Program.
Cross Country and Track and Field Teams Assist Athletes at Publix Escape to Miami Triathalon - The Nova Southeastern University cross country and track and field teams volunteered for the Publix Escape to Miami Triathlon on Sunday, Sept. 25th. Make a Wish Night at the NSU Soccer Complex -  Nova Southeastern athletics hosted Make a Wish Night at the men’s soccer match vs. No. 4 Rollins Wednesday night.
The Sharks honored Moshe, a Davie, Fla. local and an avid soccer fan.  Moshe’s wish was to see Rome, Italy, a trip he completed back in Sept.
Swimming and Diving Teams Volunteer for Rohto Ironman 70.3 Miami - The Nova Southeastern swimming and diving teams volunteered for the Rohto Ironman 70.3 Miami on Oct. 30. The Sharks handed out water, sports drinks, bananas and gels to more than 3,000 participants as they raced by.
Softball Participates in Two Community Service Events - The Nova Southeastern softball team has spent two days this fall helping support its community and raise money for cancer research. On Sept. 18, the student-athletes of the 2012 NSU softball team were among 300 volunteers that participated in the NSU... Women's Golf Helps Raise Money for St. Jude - On Nov. 19, the Nova Southeastern women’s golf team participated in the “St. Jude Give Thanks Walk” in Palm Beach County. Over 350 people participated in the event, raising $60,000 for the kids of St. Jude. Nationwide, 80 cities participated in the event to raise money for St. Jude.
Take a Bite Out of Cancer at the Women's Soccer Match Friday, Oct. 14 - The first 300 fans in attendance for the women’s soccer match against Rollins, at 6 p.m. Fri., Oct. 14, at the NSU Soccer Complex, will receive a free “Take a Bite Out of Cancer” t-shirt. All proceeds from the evening will go to the American Cancer Society.  Volleyball Donates Time, Raises Money for Two Good Causes - The volleyball season came to an end over the weekend, but the Nova Southeastern volleyball team has used that extra free time in a positive way. Several of the Sharks student-athletes spent Sunday, Nov. 6 at the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood, Fla.
Volleyball Will Auction Off Pink Jerseys Tuesday Night - The Nova Southeastern University volleyball team will auction off its pink jerseys to raise money for the Side-Out Foundation to support its efforts to find a cure for breast cancer. Volleyball to "Take a Bite Out of Cancer" Friday Night - The Nova Southeastern volleyball team will play the second of two Sharks athletic contests as a part of the “Take a Bite Out of Cancer” program in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness month when it hosts Central Oklahoma Friday at 7 p.m. at the NSU Arena.
Student-Athletes Volunteer for Special Olympics - Nova Southeastern University student-athletes spent their Saturday being active in the Special Olympics basketball tournament held in the Don Taft University Center. Baseball Delivers Gifts to Local Children's Hospital - The Nova Southeastern baseball team reached out to the community over winter break by donating gifts on behalf of the NSU athletic department.
Take a Bite Out of Cancer with Women's Basketball February 1 - The Nova Southeastern women’s basketball team will host its WBCA Pink Zone game Wednesday, Feb. 1. Women's Soccer Helps Build Habitat Homes - The Nova Southeastern women’s soccer team reached out to the community by lending a hand with Habitat for Humanity this past Saturday, Feb. 4.
Baseball Volunteers in Sharkey's Story Time - The Nova Southeastern baseball team visited the Alvin Sherman Library for Sharkey’s Story Time Wednesday, Feb. 15 and Thursday, Feb. 16. Softball to Host "Strike Out Cancer" Event March 23 - The Nova Southeastern softball team will host its breast cancer awareness event, “Strike Out Cancer” Friday, March 23, at the AD Griffin Sports Complex.
Swimming and Diving Volunteers time to Carver Ranches Boys and Girls Club - The Nova Southeastern men’s and women’s swimming and diving team lent a helping hand to the Carver Ranches Boys and Girls Club Thursday, May 17 to teach a group of 30 boys and girls swimming techniques. SAAC to Host Silent Auction to Benefit Make-A-Wish March 29 - The Nova Southeastern Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will host a silent auction March 29 at the Flight Deck, located in the Don Taft University Center, from 7-9 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
