Rowing Excels at FIRA Fall Classic

Sharks claim second in the Varsity 8.

FELLSMERE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern rowing team concluded its fall schedule Saturday at the FIRA Fall Classic, racing against the top collegiate teams from around the state.

“We had some great competition to end our fall season,” said head coach Stephen Frazier-Wong. “Some of our novices got to race for the first time and gained valuable experience. We are pleased with our progress this semester as a team but it is clear that we still have more work to do to achieve the goals that we have set for ourselves this year.”

The Sharks’ Varsity-8 A-boat claimed second overall with a finishing time of 11:55. The Sharks’ B-boat claimed fifth overall, defeating the top teams from Florida Tech and Stetson. Barry came away with the title in the regatta’s marquee event.

The Varsity-8 A-boat was comprised of coxswain Katie Dabrowski (Jr., Vero Beach, Fla.), Lauren Boudreau (Sr., Waterford, N.Y.), Remi McClellan (So., Mullica, N.J.), Megan O'Donnell (So., Lake Worth, Fla.), Stephanie Hauck (Jr., Somers Point, N.J.), Kelly Scott (So., Hobe Sound, Fla.), Rachel Rufo (Fr., Melbourne, Fla.), Amanda Craig (So., Berlin, N.J.) and Caitlin Mooney (Jr., Centerville, Mass.).

The Varsity -8 B-boat was made up of coxswain Courtney Berger (Jr., Sarasota, Fla.), Emily Harrington (Jr., Virginia Beach, Fla.), Haley McKissack So., Orange Park, Fla.), Deonnah Findley (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn.), Ashley Day (Sr., West Palm Beach, Fla.), Tori Torrisi (Fr.), Amber Morrell (Sr., Brigantine, N.J.) and Camille Evans (So., Orlando, Fla.).

In the Varsity-4, the Sharks submitted three boats into the race. The C-boat came out on top among the trio and placed second with a time of 14:34. The C-boat was made up of coxswain Sarah Erickson (So., Sunrise, Fla.), Dayna Triana (Jr., Homosassa, Fla.), Kelsey Obringer (So., Port Republic, N.J.), Camille Evans (So., Orlando, Fla.) and Sarah Patterson (Sr., Winter Park, Fla.).

The Sharks also placed second in the Novice-4, with the A-boat finishing in a time of 14:27. The boat,  was comprised of coxswain Andreanne Mercier, Adrianna Rosario, Genevieve Minardi, Ashley Aranda (Sr., Kenner, La.), Morgan Cianciolo (Fr., Guildford, Conn.).

“As head coach, I am very proud of how this team has adjusted to the challenge of having a new leader in the coach's launch. This exceptional group of student-athletes has done all that I have asked of them in the last three months and I know we are all up for the challenge of training even harder in the months to come.”
